Are Mercedes back in Contention? F1 Austrian GP 2022 Preview

After an eventful British GP, the Formula 1 World Championship moves on to Austria. The Austrian Grand Prix being a happy hunting ground for Red Bull over the past few years. But with Ferrari coming off a win last time out, they have some momentum going into this weekend.

The British GP seemed to prove Mercedes are back competing at the top. Lewis Hamilton gave a good showing last weekend and sometimes was quickest during the race. A three-way fight for the win going forward could make things much more interesting, with Ferrari and Red Bull having another thing to focus on while Mercedes tries and catch up in the championship. Could Mercedes grab their first win this season?

In what was a disappointing result for championship leader Max Verstappen last weekend at Silverstone. He will be looking to bounce back at a track he has won 3 of the past 4 races in what has been a very successful place for him. Red Bull will want to take a win back and will put Ferrari and Mercedes on alert this weekend. Will Red Bull bounce back or can Ferrari make it a double?

The second sprint race of the season takes place this weekend, whether it will shake up the order remains to be seen but the last time a sprint race happened, Verstappen won, with Charles Leclerc behind, could we see a repeat? Or will Mercedes throw a wrench into the gears and take the sprint win?

The Austrian Grand Prix gives a good race, so it has the potential to be one of the races of the season. And with Mercedes having better pace it looks to be a three horse race this time around. Can Sainz continue his momentum? Will Leclerc finally get another win? Or will Red Bull continue their good form around the Red Bull Ring?
